Supporting Institutes

The iGEM project at Heinrich Heine University would be impossible in its current form without the many supporting institutes and helping staff.

Below you will find a list of supporters of the iGEM project at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf:

Institute for Synthetic Microbiology

The Institute of Synthetic Microbiology, headed by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Ilka M. Axmann, focuses in her research on different regulatory processes with the aim to better regulate new metabolic pathways. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Institute for Microbiology

The Institute of Microbiology, headed by Prof. Dr. Michael Feldbrügge, deals in their research with topics in cell biology, pathogenicity and biotechnology, which are increasingly studied eukaryotic microorganisms as model systems. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Institute for Quantitative and Theoretical Biology

The Institute for Quantitative and Theoretical Biology, headed by Prof. Dr. Oliver Ebenhöh, focuses in its research on the analysis and description of biological systems by mathematical models. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Chair of Synthetic Membrane Systems

The Chair of Synthetic Membrane Systems, headed by Dr. Alexei Kedrov, focuses its research on mechanisms of protein translocation and membrane insertion mediated by the universal Sec translocon. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Institute for Plant Cell Biology and Biotechnology

The Institute of Plant Cell Biology and Biotechnology, headed by Prof. Dr. Markus Pauly, focuses in its research on the structure of the plant cell wall and its use in biotechnology. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Chair of Biochemistry I

The Chair of Biochemistry I, headed by Prof. Dr. Lutz Schmitt, deals in its research with the structural and functional description of membrane transporters like the ABC transporter. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Institute of Plant Biochemistry

The Institute of Plant Biochemistry, headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Weber, focuses in its research on the fundamentals of mass transport across cell membranes and between cell organelles. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Institute for Synthetic Biology

The Institute of Synthetic Biology, headed by Prof. Dr. Matias Zurbriggen, focuses in their research on methods from synthetic biology to better understand signaling processes and networks in eukaryotes. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.

Institute for Cell and Interaction Biology

The Institute of Cell and Interaction Biology, headed by Prof. Dr. Guido Grossmann, studies cell morphogenesis and growth regulation in plants. More information about the institute can be found on the institute's homepage.
